Laundry rooms combine moisture, heat, cleaning products and frequent handling. They deserve the same design attention as the kitchen, but the material and coating decisions must also support daily work.

Begin with visibility

Good task light is essential for sorting and stain treatment. Pale walls can amplify available light, while a medium-value color behind white appliances reduces glare and gives the equipment a more integrated setting.

Review samples under the room’s actual fixtures; utility spaces often have little or no daylight.

Use durable surfaces where they matter

Select a washable finish for walls near machines, counters and baskets. A leveling enamel protects cabinets and shelving. Correct dryer venting, leaks or condensation before coating.

  • Degrease walls around work surfaces
  • Prime repairs and exposed drywall
  • Keep paint away from appliance vents
  • Allow clearance and cure time before reinstalling shelves

Connect the adjacent rooms

Repeat a hallway trim color or a kitchen cabinet undertone so the laundry area belongs to the larger home. A utility room can still carry one stronger accent on cabinetry or a door.
